Is one permitted to sleep during the day on Rosh Hashanah?

Synopsis

The Rema records the custom not to sleep during the day of Rosh Hashanah and calls it the correct practice, based on the Yerushalmi. The Magen Avraham cites the Arizal who permits sleeping after midday (chatzot) since the prayers and shofar have already aroused the celestial forces. Sitting idle is considered equivalent to sleeping. The Aruch HaShulchan records the Arizal's view and the equivalence of idleness to sleep.
