When should the yehi ratzon prayer be said relative to eating the siman food — before or after beginning to eat?

Synopsis

The Mechaber's language implies saying the yehi ratzon upon eating. The Magen Avraham rules one should eat first, then say the yehi ratzon, to avoid interrupting between the bracha and eating. The Mishnah Berurah agrees. The Aruch HaShulchan offers two options: say yehi ratzon after starting to eat, or say it before the bracha.
