Should the tzitzit strings of a tallit katan be worn visible outside one's outer garments or tucked in?

Tzitzit & TefillinTallit Katan

Synopsis

The Mechaber rules the primary fulfillment of the tallit katan mitzvah is to wear it over one's clothing so the tzitzit are always visible as a reminder. The Magen Avraham says the tzitzit strings must be outside, not tucked into the corners. The Mishnah Berurah strongly condemns tucking strings into pants. The Aruch HaShulchan (citing Arizal and Kabbalistic writings) says the tallit katan should be worn under outer clothing.
