If a person's boat departed on Shabbat, may he walk the entire boat? What if the walls of the boat broke open during Shabbat?
Synopsis
A person whose boat departed on Shabbat while he was aboard may walk its entire length, since the boat's walls function as a valid enclosure. If the boat's walls broke, movement depends on whether the boat is moving (still may walk its length) or stationary (restricted to four amot). The Rema adds a rule about partial walls and the principle of chakikat l'hashlim.
