Are women exempt from tefillin, and may they choose to wear tefillin voluntarily?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules that women are exempt as tefillin is a time-bound positive commandment. The Rema rules that if women wish to be stringent, we protest against them. The Mishnah Berurah reasons that women are not careful enough to maintain guf naki. The Beur HaGra cites the Jerusalem Talmud that the Sages objected to Michal bat Kushi wearing tefillin.
