R' Shlomo Luria
This entry represents two distinct early Acharonic authorities from the Ashkenazi tradition. R' Shlomo Luria (Maharshal, 1534-1572) was a preeminent Lithuanian posek whose Yam Shel Shlomo provided critical analysis of Talmudic methodology and halakhic precedent. R' Avraham Gombiner (1635-1683) authored the Magen Avraham, a comprehensive gloss on the Shulchan Aruch that became foundational to Ashkenazi practice and remains widely consulted.
