May a community that has a custom of rotating appointed positions remove individuals from those positions at the end of their term?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules that a community with the custom of appointing people to positions for a fixed term — including the chazzan — may rotate out those individuals at the end of their term, regardless of whether the positions are paid or voluntary. The Rema adds an opinion that the chazzan should pray from a siddur designated for the congregation.
