Does an established (kavu'a) chazzan need to be asked before going before the ark?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules that an established chazzan goes before the ark on his own without waiting to be asked. A non-established chazzan must decline once or twice before accepting on the third request. The Biur Halacha notes the Gr"a challenges this ruling based on Talmudic precedent.
