Should meat be salted on the same day it is slaughtered, or is it better to let it hang for a day before salting?

Synopsis

The Aruch HaShulchan states that meat is better preserved unsalted (by hanging in air) after slaughter and should not be salted on Yom Tov, even though salting is technically permitted.
