Which vegetable should be used for karpas, and what vegetable for the first dipping?
Synopsis
The Mechaber says karpas or another vegetable. The MB prefers a vegetable whose berakha matches maror (borei pri ha'adamah) to cover maror later, but one should not use one of the five species of maror for karpas. The MA discusses parsley as the common Ashkenazi choice despite concerns about its berakha.
