If a platform (matzevah) of at least 4 handbreadths wide is placed in front of the balcony opening, does the balcony restrict the courtyard residents?

ShabbatEruvin

Synopsis

The Mechaber rules that a platform of 4 handbreadths placed before the balcony separates the balcony from the courtyard, and the balcony residents therefore do not restrict the courtyard residents. The Taz explains the reason: the placement demonstrates that the balcony residents have withdrawn from the courtyard.
