How close may one place a container of cold water near a fire on Shabbat in order to remove the chill — and may one place it close enough to become yad soledes bo?
Synopsis
The Mechaber distinguishes: placing cold water far enough from the fire that it will not reach yad soledes bo is permitted. Placing it close enough to potentially reach yad soledes bo is forbidden, even for a short time. The Rema extends this to fruits and other foods that can be eaten raw.
