May one load beams of an olive press or wine press on Erev Shabbat such that oil or wine will flow out on Shabbat? May one drink the oil/wine produced?
Synopsis
The Mechaber permits loading press beams before Shabbat, but there is a dispute about whether the resulting oil or wine may be consumed. The Mechaber permits consumption; the Aruch HaShulchan explains that if the olives/grapes were already crushed before Shabbat (so manual squeezing would not be a Torah violation), the liquids are fully permitted. Otherwise, we decree against consuming lest one come to squeeze by hand.
