A Jew holds an oven as collateral from a non-Jew, and the non-Jew continues to use the oven and pays profits to the Jew as interest on the loan — may the Jew accept profits generated on Shabbat?
Synopsis
When a Jew holds an oven as collateral and the non-Jew retains possession and use, paying profits to the Jew as loan interest, the Jew may accept Shabbat profits even without havla'ah. The oven belongs entirely to the non-Jew, the Jew has no share in it, and the non-Jew works for his own sake to fulfill his loan obligation.
