Until when may Minchah be recited — until nightfall (tzet hakochavim) or only until sunset (shekiat hachamah)?

Synopsis

The Mechaber and Rema write that Minchah may be recited until nightfall (tzet hakochavim) per the Rabbinic ruling. The Aruch HaShulchan and many acharonim argue it should end at sunset based on the Tamid whose blood becomes invalid at sunset; the Mishnah Berurah recommends finishing before sunset l'chatchila.
