If one forgot to don tallit or tefillin before Keriat Shema, may one interrupt between sections to don them and recite the blessings?
Synopsis
The Mechaber permits interrupting between sections to don forgotten tallit or tefillin and to recite their blessings. The Rema rules that for tallit, one should not recite the blessing until after the Amidah, and this is the Ashkenazi custom. The Mishnah Berurah distinguishes between tefillin (a bodily obligation permitting blessing even mid-section if tefillin become available during Keriat Shema) and tallit (not a bodily obligation, so donning would constitute an interruption).
