Do the same disqualifications that apply to writing tefillin also apply to other aspects of their production (such as forming the housing, stitching, and making the shin)?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules that anyone disqualified from writing tefillin is also disqualified from all other aspects of their making and repair. Tanning the leather, however, is valid even by the disqualified. There is discussion among later authorities about which specific acts of production are included.
