Can a letter with a separated component (e.g., a Yud not touching its parent letter) be corrected (repaired) after the fact if a child can read it as the intended letter?
Synopsis
Whether the child's reading test can save a letter with a non-touching component for purposes of permitting a tikkun (repair) depends on whether the separation makes it appear as two distinct letters. The Gra (R' Akiva Eger position) and main ruling permit repair when the child reads it and it does not appear as two letters; the Peri Megadim is stricter.
