May one support a broken beam with the side-rails of a bed on Shabbat?
Synopsis
The Mechaber permits supporting a broken beam with bed rails (arukhot ha-mita) to prevent further sinking, provided they are placed loosely. The purpose must be preventive, not to elevate the beam. Wedging the support in place is forbidden.
