May one unload a burden from an animal on Shabbat due to tza'ar ba'alei chayim?

Synopsis

One may unload a burden from a suffering animal, but must do so indirectly — inserting one's head under the load and pushing it aside so it falls on its own. Even if the load is muktze, this is permitted due to tza'ar ba'alei chayim.
