Is it a mitzvah to cut a large piece of bread on Shabbat?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules it is a mitzvah to break a large piece sufficient for the entire meal. The Mishnah Berurah and Taz explain this does not appear gluttonous on Shabbat since it reflects love of the mitzvah. The Aruch HaShulchan notes this only applies to those who break one loaf; those who break both do not need a large piece.
