Should one wash hands before or after Kiddush?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules one washes after Kiddush. If one washed before Kiddush, it indicates bread is more beloved, and one should then make Kiddush on bread rather than wine. The Rema rules the Ashkenazi custom is to wash before Kiddush and still make Kiddush on wine, except on Pesach night.
