What is the difference between items brought for the recipient versus items brought for others, regarding the prohibition and its duration?

Synopsis

Items brought specifically for a Jew are prohibited to eat for that Jew until after the required waiting period; items not brought for a specific Jew may be permitted to others immediately on the evening of the first Yom Tov.
