What is the status of an egg laid on Shabbat — may it be eaten, handled, or touched?

ShabbatMuktzeh

Synopsis

An egg laid on Shabbat is forbidden to eat or even to move. The reason is a gezeira because of Shabbat that follows Yom Tov, where the egg would be biblically forbidden due to the hachana (preparation) prohibition. One may cover it with a vessel to prevent breakage but may not touch it.
