May one hand over an animal to a non-Jewish shepherd even though the non-Jew may use it on Shabbat?

Synopsis

One may hand an animal to a non-Jewish shepherd even though the non-Jew may use it on Shabbat, since it is done without the Jew's instruction and the non-Jew is not paid specifically for Shabbat. But if the Jew sees the non-Jew using it on Shabbat, he must protest.
