Is one permitted to rinse or wash shoes and dirty garments on Shabbat?
Synopsis
The Mechaber permits pouring water on a shoe to rinse it but forbids rubbing one side on another (which is laundering). A dirty garment may not even be rinsed, since rinsing a soiled garment is tantamount to laundering. One may wipe dirt off lightly with a cloth but not vigorously lest one squeeze.
