Does the bracha HaMotzi (on bread) take priority over Borei Minei Mezonot (on cooked grain foods), and does Mezonot take priority over wine (Borei Pri HaGafen)?
Synopsis
The Rema rules that HaMotzi takes priority over Mezonot (and all other brachot) even if the other food is more preferred or important. The Rema also records that processed grain products (Mezonot from the five grain species) take priority over wine. The Mishnah Berurah (citing Magen Avraham) gives the full hierarchy.
