What is the theological meaning of the Boreh Nefashot blessing?
Synopsis
The Tur's interpretation, adopted by the Taz, Mishnah Berurah, and Aruch HaShulchan, distinguishes two categories within the blessing: 'וחסרונם' refers to necessities (bread, water); 'על כל מה שברא' refers to non-necessities (fruits and other enjoyable items). All authorities agree on this two-tier interpretation.
