May funds collected for building a synagogue be redirected to a different sacred purpose, and when may leftover funds be freely used?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules that collected funds may only be redirected upward in holiness unless the project is completed, after which surplus funds are free. A prior stipulation at the time of collection changes this entirely. The Rema adds rules about wood and stones.
